Weather & Seasons
Moab is high desert at about 4,025 feet, and the weather runs to extremes. Summer highs often top 100°F in town while the mesa-top parks like Island in the Sky and Dead Horse Point stay a bit cooler near 90°F. Winters bring 30s-40s°F days with occasional snow on the red rock, and the mid-July to September monsoon can trigger sudden thunderstorms and flash flooding in washes and slot canyons.
View forecast →Getting There
Most visitors fly into Salt Lake City (about 234 miles, 3.5-4 hours via US-6, I-70, and US-191) or Grand Junction, Colorado (roughly 110-115 miles, about 2 hours). Canyonlands Field (CNY) sits just 18-21 miles north of town with limited seasonal service. From Moab, Arches is minutes up US-191, while Canyonlands' Island in the Sky and Dead Horse Point are about 40 minutes northwest.
Best Time to Visit
Spring (April-May) and fall (September-October) are the sweet spot, with comfortable highs in the 60s-80s°F, thinner crowds than the summer peak, and low storm risk. Summer is hot and busy but great for early starts and river time, while winter is quiet and scenic with snow-dusted red rock, cold days, and short daylight. Good news for 2026: Arches requires no timed-entry reservation this year.
